Reading out aloud to your child is important.
Reading aloud to your child is crucial for their development. Research indicates that early reading and shared book experiences, especially for children under 3, significantly enhance language and literacy skills, setting a strong foundation for school readiness (Hoyne, C. & Egan, S.M., 2019).
The impact of under-developed speech and language skills may not be immediately apparent but often becomes evident later in life, affecting various aspects of our community in ways you might not expect. For example, children with low language and literacy skills may struggle with academic achievement, experience difficulties in social interactions, and face challenges in securing employment as adults. They might also have lower self-esteem and be more prone to behavioral issues.
Over 70% of children who end up in the juvenile justice system are diagnosed with a speech and language disorder.
Speech and Language disorders are not recognised or are not being referred to medical professionals at an early age.
Increasing the number of books you read will contribute to your child's development as well as those who come from a socio-disadvantaged background.
